1. 부분부정과 전체부정

1. 부분부정: all, every, both, always 등 전체를 나타내는 말이 not 과 함께 쓰이면, 모두/항상 ~인 것은 아니다의 뜻으로 부분부정을 나타냄.

  1. His parents do not know all of his friends.
  2. Comedians cannot always make people laugh.
  3. Not every girl loves the color pink.
  4. Not all emplayees in samsung are good at English.
  5. His words are not all wrong.
  6. I don’t always eat food late at night.

2. 전체부정: 모두 ~가 아니다라는 전체부정을 나타낼 때는 never, none(= not …any), neither(= not …either) 등의 표현을 써서 나타냄.

  1. His parents know none of his friends.
  2. The comedian could never make the audience laugh.
  3. None of this room know the root cause.
  4. I know neither of them.
  5. She invited none of them.

2. 도치

1. 부정어 도치: never, nothing, little, hardly, rarely, scarcely, seldom, few 등의 부정어가 문장 맨 앞에 오면 <부정어 do/have/조동사 + 주어 + 동사> 의 어순으로 쓴다.

  1. Never have I tasted such delicious soup.
  2. Hardly could we imagine what would happen next.
  3. Seldom have I read an article that was so full of lies.
  4. Rarely can a response make something better.
  5. Hardly have I felt this good.
